Updating steam hangs dating for older folks

Rated 4.68/5 based on 751 customer reviews

It's not a 'regular maintenance time', so it feels odd, I know.

But, as I recently saw in multiple forums talking about this occurrence - it shouldn't last too long.

Then, I just try my luck to enable the Steam client to access my network through Windows Firewall in both connection types (Home/Work and Public), Voila, the update smoother than butter after that.

Update 2: Another similar issue happened to me after the next restart.

(Also you won't need to run as Administrator on Windows XP unless you're a limited user)  Thanks for pointing that out!

:)Hi Azerial, I ran through all of the steps as described.

After a reboot, it would continue like that --- Running Steam on ubuntu 14.10 64-bit STEAM_RUNTIME has been set by the user to: /home/phil/.steam/ubuntu12_32/steam-runtime rm: cannot remove ‘/home/phil/.steam/steam’: Is a directory rm: cannot remove ‘/home/phil/.steam/bin’: Is a directory Installing breakpad exception handler for appid(steam)/version(1416617579) Installing breakpad exception handler for appid(steam)/version(1416617579) Gtk-Message: Failed to load module "overlay-scrollbar" Gtk-Message: Failed to load module "overlay-scrollbar" Installing breakpad exception handler for appid(steamwebhelper)/version(20141121162341) Installing breakpad exception handler for appid(steamwebhelper)/version(1416587021) Installing breakpad exception handler for appid(steamwebhelper)/version(1416587021) Installing breakpad exception handler for appid(steamwebhelper)/version(20141121162341) Installing breakpad exception handler for appid(steamwebhelper)/version(1416587021) [0102/162746: ERROR:nss_util.cc(1018)] Failed to load NSS libraries.

They only work if you're using a 32-bit python or the standalone version.Different problem, but I think there's probably some wobbly bit of configuration/sync that is getting hosed in there. Blue screens of death can be caused by a multitude of factors. There are many tools on the internet that can analyze these; however, Microsoft has its own tool. When a computer is exhibiting problems, most users are reluctant to download a 3rd party tool that "might make things worse." This is where the Windows Debugging Tools come into play.
